Routine

exactly..lol

This caption is so me!  I am a creature of habit and like to stick to a routine.  I like to rise at the same time, eat on schedule and do things a certain way.  I do like to mix it up a little with a change every now and then, like a vacation, but I do like to get back to the familiarity of things.  Some may think it's a sign of age but I think I've always been this way.
One of our preachers brought up the topic of routine in his sermon the other day.  Traditionalism is what he called it.  Why do we do the things we do?  Are we going to church to worship with a seeking heart or going with a heart of habit?  Do we give donations to missionaries because it's that Sunday of the month or with a 'love thy neighbor as thyself' mentality?  We should do things not out of duty but out of the heart.
I am not against traditions.  I think some family traditions are very important and have a special meaning to them.  I'm just warning about how some things can become rituals without any thought to or behind them.

  1. I read a story - can't remember the source - where every Thanksgiving, the Grandmother cut off both ends of the ham and then cooked it. her grown daughter did the same. When the granddaughter got old enough to cook, she asked her mom why she cut the ends off the ham. The mom didn't know so she asked the grandmother why. the grandmother said she'd never had a pan big enough for the whole ham so she just cut the ends off..:)

  3. I love the routine of getting up in the morning and having my quiet time and devotions. I loved spending time writing my blog post right after that, until I decided that I was turning into a blob and started walking. Now I walk but don't blog! When my routine is upset, I don't do it. But I agree that we often get into a rut, doing the same thing over and over, and have no real goal in mind. It's why we do something, and not what we do necessarily, that is important. Thanks for the post; it makes me more conscious of the why's of my traditional ways of doing things. You 'da best!

  4. I suppose that's why I like going to the auctions. But after I have spent too much money on the wrong things, I desire routine; wishing that my bills would just disappear. Thanks for your continued blogs. Have a great day! Joel
