Way Back Wednesday---Kindergarten Grad

     k

Well I didn't know until now that I had a doctorate degree.  You can now start calling me Dr. Angie...lol..just kidding.  This was my first of three diplomas in my life.
We lived on Flagstone Street off of Kiehl Avenue back then, that's one street west of the skating rink.  I went to a private school called Lil People School for kindergarten and first grade.  I loved it.  They stayed open until 6pm to give parents time to get there after work to pick kids up.  They offered a variety of different after school classes.  I was first put into dance class with ballet and tap.  Well after discovering I had two left feet and no rhythm, I moved into baton class. You might notice in the picture that my shoes, that later became fashionable, were not a stylish statement by me.  These were corrective shoes that were a precursor to my braces.
I think it's important to make education an important aspect in a child's life at an early age.  A lil graduation for a lil people group makes it fun and special.  Getting a good start to a hopefully long road of education is priceless.

  2. Oh wow! What a sweet picture. I have pics of Jama and Gray graduating from kindergarten. They both also went to Lil People school on Kiehl. Jama took tap and ballet there too...y'all were just a few years apart...she will be 38 this year (oh my, how can my daughter be 38 when I am only 39???) The teachers there LOVED Jama...she was adorable like you. They loved Gray, too, but I never knew what "story" they would have to tell me every day when I picked him up. Thankfully, he also made it through until he started going to Oakbrooke and then Gloria (his teacher from 6th grade to 11th when he graduated with a G.E.D.) We have lived on Kiehl over 35 years and I have never heard of Flagstaff Street. Is it still there? We did spend LOTS of time at the skating rink back in the day. Once again, you have awakened many sweet thoughts just reflecting on the young lives of MY little people, LOL! Love your blog, Angie...thanks for the memories and the wise words....love you, Twylia

  5. Actually the street was Flagstone, not Flagstaff. Angie was a cutie indeed--still is most of the time. Mom
