Way Back Wednesday-- The Villas

This is a picture of me when I was in 6th grade and we lived in a subdivision called The Villas.  It's about 4 miles down the road from where we lived now.  The dining and living rooms had very, very high celings with skylights in them.  I liked living here.  The subdivision had a pool right across from our house and I could ride my bike without much traffic danger.
Oh and AJ's dairy bar was within walking distance.  I suppose things seemed safer back then because my parents let me walk there with friends. We had to walk to the end of the neighborhood, cross a drainage ditch, then cross Batesville Pike just to get there.  A choc/vanilla swirled ice cream cone was the goal. Yum.  There was a corner gas station on further up the street that we rarely walked to for candy.  It was quite a hike for me and not really worth it either.  When I see how busy the street is now, I wonder if it was less so back then?
The dangers we have faced and will face are certainly out there, whether we acknowledge them or not.  Be thankful everyday for His protection that was and is and is to come.

  2. Yes, it was safer then. My little boy would go all day long with his friend Chris. They played in the woods in front of our house. When I needed him I had a cow bell that I rang. He knew to go no farther than the cow bell's ring. And I never worried about him. Today we won't let the little ones play outside in our front yard without supervision! And yet we still have a God we can trust for our protection. Yet He does give us common sense, too, doesn't He? What a cute little girl on that ladder!

  3. What an adorable picture!!! And now I know where you got your love of ice cream....you started young!! LOL!! I grew up in the country in south Arkansas and our doors were never locked (house or car); we would walk "across the field" and "through the woods" to our friends' and grandmother's houses; my brother and I walked a quarter of a mile to the bus stop every morning and every afternoon. Those were simpler times back then. Bad people and loose morals have made this country less safe. But, like Gloria says, God is still our protector and our shield....in Him is our trust. We just need to also exercise our good judgment....after all, He gave us that too! Showed the boys your pic decorating the Christmas tree...they loved it. I am keeping them all this week while Jama and Chad are out of town. Love to you, my friend....T.
P.S. Wish some of those ice cream places (Tulip Queen, Dairy Queen, etc.) were still open in Crossett....great memories and great ice cream at those....gone by the wayside now. James and I had our first real "meeting" at the Tastee Freez in north Crossett...."cruisin" was a popular sport back then, LOL!!

  4. Love that picture of you! I can't imagine my girls walking to the dairy bar...I hardly let them on the front porch without me. But, that swirled cone sure sounds good :)
