More To Me

Don't underestimate me.

I recently watched a video with a Great Dane and a Chihuahua puppy playing together.  The size difference was huge, but their hearts were on the same playful level.  As humans, we often discriminate on many different levels, including size.
As one who has been the same size since junior high, I've been underestimated many times.  I've been given the kid's menu or even worse is to be passed over for no menu at all.  I do speak up for myself, but it may be thru someone else's more authoritative voice or a written response.
'Don't judge a book by it's cover' is the common cliche, but we're all guilty in some way.  We miss out on opportunities when our preconceived ideas take over before the truth is revealed in real discovery.
James 2;4  ''have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?''
God sent His Son to save the world, not just those just like you or those you think deserving.  God sees everyone as a sinner and in need of a Savior.  Aren't we grateful that God sees past our obvious appearance that will wither away and cares more about our heart and soul?

Give Thanks

Oops, should I chew or just hold it?  We've all been caught with a mouthful, right?  It's not that we're not thankful, but we just didn't put the Giver of all things first priority.
Even Jesus gave thanks for the food that He was given and shared......'Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people.'
Most of us do not really know what true hunger is.  Food is often taken for granted, until we are reminded how costly it is at the grocery store.  God provides for all our needs, but not necessarily for all our wants.
As the season will soon change, let us be reminded to be thankful for all the different foods that will again be 'new' to us since this time last year.

Jeans

...

My name is Angie Bridger and I am addicted to jeans.  Haha, but seriously true.  I may be the Imelda Marcos of jeans.  Denim just can't be beat by any other fabric for comfort and style.
When I was a teenager, it was a rare occasion to find me in anything but jeans.  One time, my dad went to NYC on a business trip and I asked him to make a special stop at Macy's for some denim overalls by Guess.  As time went on, the denim got heavier to me and the button became an aggravation.  So began my switch to knit pants that weren't a chore to wear.  Comfort and ease trumps jeans when wearing them wears you out.
Well one benefit now with having to have help in getting dressed is that jeans are back in my life.  Yes, going overboard with the number of jeans I own is a side effect of doing without for YEARS.  Jeans are my weakness, but there could be worse things, right?

Pool Time for Us

2 of the hardest tests in life #paulocoelho

As usual, it has taken me till August to finally get in the pool.  I can partly blame this summer's crazy cool weather on part of my delay.  Today I conquered my preconceived ideas on what getting in the pool would be like for me.... exhaustive, shortness in my breath, disappointing.  I can tell you it was none of those things and I actually enjoyed it.  Karla dunked me a couple of times and we just relaxed in the cool water.  I look forward to doing more next time.  I am trying to do one 'out of the norm' adventure every week and this was this week's.

Okay With It

Faith...

Most people would relate this caption to past mistakes and overcoming the odds of repeating them now and in the future.  I could certainly do that, but I am going to relate it instead to my physical losses.
Isn't it better to have had and lost, than to have never had at all?  It certainly is.  At least, I have memories of many physical activities that I can look forward to in heaven one day.  I can know exactly how someone else feels in both the thrill and defeat of physical adventures.  I've roller skated, white water rafted, parasailed, bike ridden, jet skied, and much more in the past.
As my body gets weaker with time, I am challenged to still seek the thrills in life at a little calmer pace.  I accept that I can't do all I used to, but I'll never give in to doing nothing.  I have faith that, while I'm on hold for a short while,  the adventures of eternity will be worth the wait and out of this world.
May you not get bogged down in your can'ts, but instead get filled with hope that's everlasting.

Dream Big

Go big or go home.

The biggest obstacle in people's achievements in life is often the doubt within themselves.  It's not physical weakness but the mental attitude about themselves.  I don't really agree with the 'you can be anything you want to be' philosophy, because there are factors beyond our control.  I do believe in having high expectations of yourself and being the best you can be.
The Lord gives us the strength needed for each day.  What we do with that blessing is up to us.  I think we should dream big and even if you don't reach your goal, you'll have gotten further than if you never tried.  Laziness defeats possible dreams.  'You reap, what you sow' and a good work ethic will prove it to be true.
Don't let the world set limits on you.  Be the change that you want to see in the world.  Defy the odds and prove your discouragers wrong.  With God, all things are possible.

Listen Better

Want to become a better listener? These tips will help.

Are you hearing or are you listening? There is a difference.  Less talk and more listening leads to more effective communication.  Yadda, yadda, yadda is often what we hear but if we actually listened, we'd be better suited to respond.  Distractions from our own thoughts is probably the biggest deterrent to listening.
How well do you listen to God's voice?  Is your agenda more important than His?  Is the world louder than His whispers to you?
May we not just be hearers but doers of the Word and that begins with being better listeners.
