Carry Nothing

1 Timothy 6:7

It doesn't matter if you made it, built it, bought it, earned it, or stockpiled it in this life, you cannot take it with you when you die.  I think this is a problem for all ages.  Young people want the coolest, newest things for themselves before thinking of others, and that's 'if' they think past themselves.  Older people are often penny pinchers to a fault by not wanting to spend money to enjoy life or to take care of themselves with a caregiver.
What you can take with you are the treasures you've built up in heaven.  Matthew 6;19-21  ''Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.''
'Worldly-mindedness is as common and as fatal a symptom of hypocrisy as any other, for by no sin can Satan have a surer and faster hold of the soul.'  Satan wants us to believe that this life is the end so we are led by the lie to get all you can out of this life and disregard the consequences.  God says believe in Me and promises eternal life.  John 3;16  'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.'  God doesn't love this world, nor should we, but He loves us in this world.

  1. Something we all need reminded of at times. I know Sat. at a memorial for someone I knew who died, the preacher pointed out that John 3:16 did not say "shall not die" but said "shall not perish" meaning we will have an eternal life for those who believe in Him. Mom

  2. I love this: whether we make it, build it, earn it, or stockpile it - I think you've covered it all and it all needs to be covered. LY

  3. It is amazing when we look around and see people with all the material possessions you can imagine and they are not happy and then there are those who have no significant material possessions and you know they are rich. Dad

  4. I fall into this trap...maybe not always with material things, but with trying to get things out of this life that the Lord never intended for it. Thanks for setting me straight;-)

  5. It is amazing, isn't it, how we cling to this world and its possessions. Hebrews 13 tells us that, "Here we have no lasting city, but seek the city that is to come." And in chapter 11 we are told that we are strangers and exiles on the earth. Why, then, do we hold on so tight? I don't think we truly understand what we are going to have versus what we are trying so hard to keep. Very thought-provoking post, Angie.

  6. As has been said, "I have never seen a funeral hearse pulling a U-Haul"....and we never will. This life shall pass away....behold, all things will be new...and it won't be any of our earthly possessions, will it? I call my "collectibles" treasures, but they surely are not. They are merely "junk". My everlasting treasures are stored up in heaven, and one day I will see what those treasures truly are! Looking forward to that day. Thank you, Angie, for a convicting and, as Gloria states, thought-provoking post. Love you, T.
