Sugar Coated?

"THE CHIEF DANGER OF THE CHURCH TODAY is... trying to get on the same side as the world, instead of turning the world upside down. Our Master expects us to accomplish results, even if they bring opposition and conflict. ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN COMPROMISE, APATHY, and PARALYSIS." ~ A.B. Simpson

2 Timothy 4; 3-4  '' For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.''

As Mary Poppins sang, 'Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.'  Well the church in today's world often thinks we need to sugar coat the Word to avoid losing it's members.  It is a wrong, dangerous theory and misleading.  Sermons often preach 'the good life' message of wealth and earthly benefits to becoming a believer, which is false teaching.  God never promises an easy life but promises strength to get you through life.
If you're attending a church that never deals with subjects like sin, hell, repentance or forgiveness then you need to think about whether the messages are spiritual doctrine or motivational jargon. There is a huge difference.
We must remember that whatever we are going through or face in our lives that it's 'not about you but it's about God's glory.'  The Word is good for us, even when it's hard to swallow.

  1. So right about this. The world is trying to make marriage something new as "same sex marriage" -- trying to sugar coat something that is not marriage at all and is wrong. Trying to sugar coat abortion as being a choice and something other than killing a baby. The Mother made her choice the day she got pregnant. Mom

  2. Angie, this is so true.

  3. It is true. When the National Cathedral in Washington rang it's bells for 45 min. or so to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling, I can't even explain how I felt. The Supreme Court is Secular and reflects not only the law but also the values of society. But the church should know better. I really, really think our nation is in trouble.

  4. Angie, preach on sister. True word of wisdom. Robbie

  5. I need to remember on a daily basis that it is not about me, but about God's glory, but at the same time He is working everything together for the good of those that love Him and have been called according to His purpose. I'm thankful that He is not only all powerful, but also good, and that He "rewards those who earnestly seek him." Yes, the Word is good for us, even if it is hard to swallow.
    Love you,

  6. We see this more and more. I've been shocked lately how people will try to convince themselves that the Bible doesn't really say what it says, so that they can feel ok about their sin. Makes you thankful to be under teachers that aren't ashamed of the gospel of Christ.

  7. I am so thankful that at our church, we are challenged by the messages each Sunday to apply God's word in our lives and to live according to His commandments. My toes are stepped on every week and that is a good thing. To God be the glory....and may we ever remember that it is all about Him! Love you, T.
