Fear

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. —Psalm 34:4

Do not be afraid - daily

    After Bible study last night, we were all down in the basement watching one of my favorite movies, Places in the Heart.  I had recorded it off of tv so it had commercials in it.  As I was fast forwarding thru the ads, it was quiet and we all heard someone walking in the bedroom above.  We looked around and everyone was accounted for, us and the pets.  My dad went upstairs to get his pistol and search the upstairs. I told my mom to get the phone and be ready to call 911.  She thought about going upstairs too but I discouraged that knowing my dad could be easily startled and not knowing she was up there and would be trigger happy. As I waited with butterflies in my stomach, I remembered this caption. 'Do not be afraid.'  So I closed my eyes and said a prayer asking for God's hand of protection to cover us.  My dad came back down with nothing found so we watched the rest of the movie with the pistol within my dad's reach.
     After considering the possibilities as to what it might have been, my dad thinks it was probably an animal in the ceiling joists.  If that is true, then that is one fat, chunky squirrel or rat or whatever.  If it ever falls thru one of my ceiling lights, whoa, I may break out in revival like that Ray Steven's squirrel song...lol.
     There will always be things in this world that cause us to get scared but we have a Protector that is in control.  Do not be afraid but have that peace that everything will be okay.  Small things can test us to see where we turn in a scary situation. Turn to the Lord as fast as you can and the fear will pass.

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
 I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. —Berg

Trust in the Lord is the cure for a fearful spirit.

  1. I really love this, Angie. The Scripture, the example, the humor and even the hymn that you chose. Thanks.

  2. Well, that's just a little spooky. You know that song talks about a church in Pascagoola...that's where my mom was born :)
    I have to remind myself often not to fear, but rest in God. I tend to frighten easily, very easily. Thanks for the good reminder.

  3. I laughed out loud at your breaking out in revival comment--so hilarious. Although last night I can attest that things weren't seeming so funny. I loved this blog today--good examples, good scripture and a good laugh. (Thanks for the prayer too) Mom

  4. I just hope I am around when you break out in revival to that Ray Stevens' song!! THAT would be hilarious!! Your dad is so much like my husband. That is exactly what James would have done....ever the protector. Guess that is a male thing! I would be like you....praying for God to take care of us. We have heard "spooks in the night" at times, too, but thankfully have never had to contront man or animal. I am sure that Harley's high-pitched bark would scare off anything, LOL!!!! Your blog today reminded me of the Scripture verse..."He is my protector and my shield...an ever present help in times of trouble." So glad you are safe this morning and no "boogie-bears" got you last night! God is good....love you, T.

  5. I always hope that if an intruder comes in the house that Haley will be here. Between her nerve and her scream, he would be frolicking out of here! I love this post, Angie. Being a fear prone person, I often quote, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10.

  6. That must be the relative of the one I heard in my wall at the head of my bed. I got up one night and searched my kitchen and bedroom to make sure I didn't have a human visitor. However, I had to depend on God alone because I don't have a gun. Don't let the enemy know my secret
