Show Me The Way

Spend time alone with the Lord.

I've had the song, 'Down to the River to Pray', stuck in my head today.  The lyrics remind us all... sisters, brothers, fathers, mothers, sinners... to seek out time with God.   When we pray, we humble ourselves saying 'Good Lord, show me the way.'
I think the setting of the river reminds us to get away from worldly distractions and draw near to God in His peaceful created place.  Of course, we can't always go to a nature environment but we can find somewhere to be alone with God.
What kind of gift is time alone with God?  It's a gift of peace, when you lay your burdens down to the only One who can take care of everything.  It's a gift of love, when you not only ask but thank God for the desires of your heart.  It's a gift of assurance, when we are too far away to physically help, prayer can be the biggest help.  It's a gift of humility, when we know and acknowledge God is in control of our entire life.
As followers of Jesus, we should all do as He did and seek out quiet time by ourselves to pray.

  1. Angie, what a beautiful, beautiful reminder to spend time alone with God. That is why I like to get up so early in the mornings. It's the only time that I can find that beautiful place in my noisy, noisy world. Why in the world the Lord would want to hear from us sinners, I can't comprehend. But praise God, He does!

  3. Dear Angie,
As a result of my own experience I believe that when one has the ability to be physically active it is most difficult to take the time to pray. One may be inclined to think that other things are so urgent that they must be done first and therefore leave prayer as the last priority. I think there is probably also a deep-seated question within whether prayer actually accomplishes anything.
May God strengthen and encourage you today.

  4. Good blog Angie, It is truely wonderful to get away from the city environment to see nature as God intended. I remember being in Nevada many years ago and driving at night and had reached a place where there were no lights from the cities, no cars, no airplanes in sight and just looking at the moon and stars, what a quite place that was, that truely was God's country. Mom and I are not always with you but God is always there so, in your quite time call on Him and he will provide comfort and encouragement as no one else can. Dad
