What Burns You

THE DEVIL BELIEVES THAT THERE IS A BREAKING POINT IN EVERYBODY'S LIFE: Job 3. "Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control over his spirit," Prov. 25:28. CALL ON JESUS, HE CAN HELP: "The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you," 2 Tim. 4:22.

Proverbs 25;28  ''Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.''

One of the fruits of the spirit is self control.  How is your handle on it?  Are you a match ready to be lit or are you a watched pot that never boils?  Self control is only controlled by self.  You can blame others for setting you off but your reaction is only in your control.

Proverbs 16:32  ''Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.''
''Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.''--Mac McCleary
''How can a society that exists on instant mashed potatoes, packaged cake mixes, frozen dinners, and instant cameras teach patience to its young?''--Paul Sweeney

You can see the lack of self control in our society by the amount of violence around us.  Guns settle arguments all too often, instead of civil conversation. 'Ain't nobody got time for that' is our code phrase for lack of patience.
May your self control be intact regardless of the amount of heat that is on you.

  1. YOu would be proud of me. Last night I exhibited self-control and again today. Well, maybe not when I ate half a ball of chocolate - the kind that you whack on the counter top, the pieces fall apart and the whole thing tastes like chocolate dipped in orange... But.. I digress... Maybe I need to go back and read your blog again... Or perhaps memorize it... LY

  2. OKAY, what are you talking about------The car I nearly rear ended today because the driver stoped in the left lane and did not use the turn lane? Or my friend who is on THREE diets at this time because he was not getting enough to eat on one diet?? I got angry about dropping food on you today??? Something else?? We can talk directly you don't have to blog about it. Dad

  3. I'm with Wayne! Just how many episodes do I need to explain? Thanksgiving dinner....which took hours to prepare but only minutes to gobble up (no pun intended...or maybe there is), Black Friday shopping (NOT me...my grands...but I have been guilty in years past), frustration over the Razorback game yesterday? Is there more? Well, yes, of course there is. How much do I need you to keep me straight? Let me count the ways. Love you, sweet friend....T.

  4. Well my boiling point used to be reached almost instantly when I was younger. As I have grown older and hopely wiser, my boiling point usually takes a little more time and I am thankful for that. One thing I know is that when I get all upset it usually hurts or bothers me the most. I admire people who are so laid back and calm and seem like nothing upsets them--I have never been that way, not in my makeup I suppose. May God help me. Mom

  5. Well, I don't always act as if this is true...but I often tell my girls that no one can "make" you mad. That is a reaction that you choose.
