Our Appointments

START WITH RAISING UP GODLY CHILDREN: "The impression that a PRAYING MOTHER leaves upon her children is life-long." ~ D.L. Moody

"The impression that a PRAYING MOTHER leaves upon her children is life-long." ~ D.L. Moody

Today I attended the memorial service for Kay Stinnett.  Her daughter, Cara, is not only a friend of mine but more importantly my sister in Christ.  Cara had the strength today of 10,000 soldiers as she shared the testimony of her mother's Christ-like example to her in her life.
'As followers of Christ, we are called to be witnesses of what Jesus has done in us and for us. To point people to Christ, we don’t need to be able to explain every theological issue or answer every question. What we must do is explain what we have witnessed in our own lives through the cross and the resurrection of the Savior.'
Everyone is guaranteed two appointments in this life, with birth and death.  We've all made our first appointment but what are you doing with your time until the next scheduled appointment?  We call this our 'dash', like mine is 1971-?  Are we passing the hope we have in Jesus to others?
For believers, death is not the end but instead a glorious new beginning.  Jesus conquered the grave and gave us victory in death.  Yes, we all want to go to Heaven but it always seems too soon for those left behind and not yet called to go.  May the peace of God comfort us all till we meet again on that beautiful shore.

  1. Cara was exceptionally strong today in talking about her mother. That is an indication of her faith in God and the eternity that has been promised to all belivers and knowing she will see her mother again. That is security.
    Well done. Dad

  2. The funeral today was truly a celebration of Ms. Stinnett's life--it made me wish I had known her better. She usually had a smile and made you feel like she knew you even if you didn't know her well. She was a strong woman and a great encouragement to many I am sure because she suffered several physical ailments yet continued to have a smile and pass on Joy. Mom

  3. The Scriptures tell us that the last enemy to be destroyed is death. But in 1 Cor.15, we are told, "When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.'' It sounds as if Cara's mom is experiencing that very victory right now. Oh, that all might know our Savior!

  4. Angie, it all has to do with perspective, doesn't it? God is so good to have us experience suffering and death along the way to our "appointment" so that we again " fix our thoughts on that which is unseen." The Lord has to keep me in that mode, otherwise I would continue in the trivial pursuits that come so naturally to me. Thanks for your words. Have a great day. Joel

  5. I've been pondering some of those thoughts lately...how we are jars of clay and yet we hold the most precious treasure. We are ambassadors for Christ. It is our job to represent Him to the world around us. My prayer is that I would be a faithful and effective ambassador.

  6. What a sweet testimony. Having just lost my precious mother-in-love, I reflect on some of her many Godly qualities. I know she prayed for all of us continually during her lifetime. She once wrote to me that, "One of the greatest rewards of life is seeing your children grow up to serve the Lord." No doubt, she had prayed that very prayer on many occasions. So thankful for God's gift of mothers....much love, T.
