Tomatoes

One of the great things of summertime is homegrown tomatoes.  Yum, I love them sliced, diced and juiced.  Are they a fruit or a vegetable?  Who cares.. it's just juicy goodness from God's garden.
Tomatoes have a special spot of their own in my memory bank.  When I was a kid, I sold tomatoes and a few other veggies down by the road in front of our house.  It was a pretty sweet business deal.  My parents grew the tomatoes, picked them, and hauled them to the road in a wheelbarrow.  Then I set them on display on my table and weighed and sold them by the pound. I borrowed my uncle's scales from across the street.  Yes, I got to keep all the money.  Kids don't know what 'overhead costs' are.. lol.  It was good practice with currency, customer service and perseverance in the heat.
Proverbs 16;11  ''Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of his making.''   Proverbs 11;1  ''The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.''
May we always get what we pay for and not be fools for Satan's cheating schemes.

  1. Great analogy, Angie. My dad grew tomatoes for the market, so I had to like them! Now I love them and treasure the good-tasting ones like they still grow in south Arkansas. In fact, I came home yesterday with a few my brother had grown. Regarding the scales, my dad used to leave his scales on the tomato table when we were not at home. He had a sign nearby that stated how much the tomatoes were per pound. He left it up to the customer to weigh their purchase and leave the appropriate amount of money. I am sure many times he was probably
given extra. I guess those honest people had learned all about Proverbs 16:ll and Proverbs 11:1! After all, God sees everything....even how many tomatoes we have in the bag. Thanks for a sweet memory, my friend. Love you, T.

  2. You were a great business person, acquire goods cheap and sell them at a profit in cash and pay no taxes. Sounds like a good business plan to me. Love you Dad

  3. That's my Angie! Always on the lookout for a way to succeed in life's little enjoyments. You also use what you acquire to make the lives of others enjoyable. So the combination of good business and hardy giving has paid off in many ways for you and benefited others, as well. I guess that's one way (by blessing others with what we have) that we are protected from the cheating schemes of Satan. Did I ever say that I want to be like you when I grow up?

  4. I would have loved to see you at your road-side stand. My girls always want to do a lemonade stand, but I give them the lecture about overhead and the fact that no one really wants to buy lemonade. Looks like your parents were cooler than my kids parents ;)
