Don't Be a Warrior

Proverbs 16:32

Are you a warrior?  This verse reminds me of those people on Black Friday who trample over people just to get a television at a discounted price.  Hey, I'm all for a good bargain but I don't lose all respect for others and run them down to get it.
Our society has become increasingly impatient.  When did 'instant-gratification' replace 'good things come to those who wait?'  I know I've been spoiled myself with my TiVo and can't hardly watch regular television with all the commercials.  I think that's a good thing but I wonder if it makes me impatient in other areas?
Self control is widely under used I think.  Whether it's anger, food, or our mouths, we need to use a lil discipline on ourselves.  You can see the lack of self control in the increased crime rates, the obesity of our society, and the profanity that we hear all too often.  We can control what we want to, including ourselves.
''The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.''  May you be a vine that produces such fruit and not a branch that needs cut off.

  1. Goes along with James 3 - the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering and without hypocrisy. God's wisdom as opposed to ours...

  2. Amen, Angie and Cathie....wonderful wisdom. We DO control what we want to....we also DO what we want to. Making excuses is just that most of the time....God gave us a mind to make good choices and a handbook to help us do so. I pray I will be a grower of fruits!! Love you, T.

  4. Okay, I'm not telling you any of my secrets anymore! Just kidding! But seriously, for me it's not necessarily the big things that cause me to lack patience or self-control, but in light of eternity, the insignificant things. Thanks for the good reminder, Angie. You are loved and appreciated, my dear friend.

  5. In doing taxes this weekend I've realized there are two ways of veiwing it- as the government with a straw in my cup, sucking everything out, or as a saucer of tax money that represents how the Lord has provided in abundance this year. Thanks for that latter picture. Joel
