Pleasing Who?
My recent reading poses the question of where our focus is. 'How much pleasure am I getting out of life? or How much pleasure is God getting out of my life?' As believers we should have a mind shifted off of ourselves and onto a life lived with the kingdom in mind.
We often think that if we just don't do anything really 'bad' then we're not living lives offensive to God. Is that enough? No... don't confuse activity with productivity. Revelation 4;11 ''“You are worthy, our Lord and God,to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” Psalms 149;4 ''For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.''
Our lives are meant for service. Are your activities rooted with a God driven purpose? You can plant seeds anywhere and everywhere you go. I think we should question our activities and the benefits of them. We shouldn't just drudge thru another day but recognize that this is another day the Lord has made and rejoice in it. He created us for His pleasure and we should live our lives with that in mind.
'Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.'

A lovely and very true post. I love that song too. If we are His child we will get pleasure ourselves from doing things that pleases Him. Mom
ReplyDeleteYour mom said what I was thinking: Our greatest pleasure in life is to please and honor God. When we are confident that we have done that, our joy is complete. Wonderful post, Angie.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post....such a sweet reminder that we are to serve God and be a light to others. It reminds me of that old hymn, "Let Others See Jesus in You". And like you have said in the past...we may be the only Bible some people ever read. But we need to serve and glorify in ALL circumstances. I remember many years ago, I heard a Southern comedian (I think it was Jerry Clowers from Mississippi) telling a true story. He said that he and his wife had gotten a call that their son had been in a terrible traffic accident. His first prayer was not for the well-being of his son, but that his response....whatever the situation might entail when he arrived at the scene...would be Christ-like. I have always remembered that...and that is my prayer too....that in ALL circumstances, my response will be Christ-like. Love you, my friend...T.
ReplyDeleteI love that song too, and it goes beautifully with your message. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou can plant seeds anywhere and everywhere you go. I love that. As a S-A-H-M, sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough for the Lord. But my biggest call is to plant seeds right here in my home in these little lives He has entrusted to me. Great reminder.
