Who Listens?

   Who hasn't felt like the yellow traffic light?  Kids are not alone in this, as adults also feel unheard in the workplace, the home, or even in church matters.  It is good to give advice as a warning but you are only responsible for what you say, not what they hear.  Selective hearing is a form of ignoring the precautious warning.  Just like the yellow light cautions us, we can choose to slow down and heed the danger or we can speed right thru the warning and risk the consequences.
   The Bible is our traffic light to life.  It tells us what we need to STOP doing.  It CAUTIONS us with the consequences to our sinful actions and thoughts.  It also tells us what to GO and do unto others and how to glorify God.
   Is God saying you never listen to Him?  Are you ignoring Him and paying the consequences?  I urge you to screech to a halt and stop living a life for yourself and go live a life that glorifies your Creator.

It's a God Thing

    One might think that because my body in general is not strong in the muscle department that my eyesight would be weak as well.  That couldn't be farther from the truth. I can't explain it because our eyes are dependent on the optic muscles.  Therefore, 'It's a God thing' that my vision is as sharp as a hawk.  Some people refer to me as 'eagle eye.'  I can see a black ant across the room on berber carpet, while others say where, where?  My eyes also see the big picture despite it's lack of presence before me because of my vision of faith.  My hope lies more in what I can't see yet, but it is backed by the proof I see now.
    People often have hardened hearts and don't see what is right before them.  Jesus reminded the witnesses of His feeding the thousands with 5 loaves of bread.  Mark 8;18  '' Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?''  Some can't see the forest for all the trees.  Many get caught up in the details trying to explain it all and they miss the obvious work of God before their very eyes.
    One day the veil will be lifted and both the blind and the ones who can see now, will see it all clearly.

Cosby Says......

          I'm handing today's blog over to Bill Cosby.  I saw this on facebook and just thought I would share it with you.  Today's culture can limit you, even in the land of opportunity.


They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.
I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be...
And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.
$500 sneakers for what?

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol?

And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?
People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from??
We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa.

I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid.

I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !
With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap ......... And all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.
We have got to take the neighborhood back.
People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.

Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.
We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.
We cannot blame the white people any longer.'

Pause

    In this world, we often react too quickly to just about everything.  Pause should be a common word to us, not a foreign word.  What's the rush?  Where's the fire?  Taking a moment can prevent impulsive reactions that do more harm than good.
    Even in the Psalms, the word 'Selah' means pause and praise.  Selah occurs 71 times in the Psalms.  It means take the time to consider what you just read.  Pausing stresses the importance of the meaning of the words David wrote.
    If we would stop our own line of thinking and pause to get God's direction, then we would lead more peaceful lives.  I'm not saying it's easy not to be trigger happy with our words but it would be better.
    You can't spell 'pause' without the 'use'... coincidence, I think not.

Know the Difference

     Okay, I don't care what anyone says, now that's funny.  I love cool frogs and they are my theme in my room during the summertime.  I think this lil guy is pretty cool.
     The point of this blog post is the difference between confidence and arrogance.  Confidence is believing in yourself and trying despite the obstacles with a humble attitude.  Arrogance is a bragging persona that thinks too highly of themselves despite their obvious faults.  Confidence is respected while arrogance is a deterrent. 'Confidence comes not from always being right, but from not fearing to be wrong.' 'Arrogance is weakness disguised as strength.'  'Arrogance is knowledge without the wisdom.'  I would say humility is the bridge between the two and we must tread carefully.
    Who do you want in your court?  The one who can walk the walk but may fall or the one who talks the talk but can't walk at all?

Not Alone

   Sometimes we feel like whatever we are going through, we are all alone and no one else bears that burden.  It's not true.  I can tell you living with a progressive disease is an adaptive work in progress.  You encounter new struggles and have to figure your way through them.
   One of my obstacles is having to cough and getting back home in time to use my cough assist machine.  It limits your range of travel because it's a matter of how long you can wait or struggle till you can cough.  For example, I won't go to LR if I'm not doing well in general and Hot Springs is out of the question unless we take the motor home.  It's very frustrating to want to go but fearful to do so...and I'm not a fearful person without cause.
    We have searched and tried different battery power sources but they aren't pure or strong enough electrically for my power hungry cough helper.  Today, I searched the internet and found other people who have already traveled my road and shared their solutions.  It puts a hope in my heart and eases my mind for the future.  I'm thankful for those people who help others with their stories and advice.
    This is just another example of God providing and meeting my needs in His timing.  [No, I don't have it yet or worked out but I trust I will.]  God is good, all the time... and that's that.

Problems

    How true is this caption?  I think it hits home with how we often deal with the problems we face.  We feed the problem, we point blame for our problems and we replay them in our minds like a broken record.  Often our last resort is turning to God when we realize we are empty handed in our ability to fix anything.
   'Struggles are required in order to survive in life, because in order to stand up in life, you have to know what falling down is like.'  We are meant to learn from our trials.  God gave us the gift of memory to help us not repeat bad decisions but also to remember His faithfulness through those difficult times.  'Problems are not stop signs but are guidelines to a better future.'
    God wants us to 'Come to Him, all ye who are weary and burdened, He will give you rest.'

It's a God Thing

     Did you cringe when you saw or heard about the compound break of the Louisville basketball player's leg Sunday?   Oww, you know that had to hurt to the max.  The force on the bone from the fall was just too great a pressure for it to be absorbed.
     It made me think of all the falls I have had so far.  Yes there are too many to count but I can't count any as graceful.  'It's a God thing' that as many times as I've bit the dust, the only bones I've broken are my nose and little toe.  When I say 'only' I'm not discounting them as trivial because the pain was as real as anything else.  What often hurts the worst is our pride.  Good grief, did anybody see that?  Sometimes we need a little leveling to get level headed again.
    Psalm 34;19-20  'The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.'
    Proverbs 16;18  'Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.'

Friendship

'A friend loves at all times.'  Proverbs 17;17

     Friendships are a true gift from God, especially when we use our influence with each other to glorify Him.  Each friend has a special quality that encourages us in our daily walk.  'A friend gives us the total freedom to be ourselves.'
    As much as Snoopy or any other dog thinks they are man's best friend, there is only one 'perfect friend' that can and does meet all our needs.  God is full of advice, always ready to listen, available to lean on, will never leave your side, loves you, holds your hand with a smile, and is awaiting the time for you to be together.
    You have to be a friend to have friends.  I want my friends to know the Friend that will not fail them because I and other friends will fall short at times.  There is the One who we can turn to 24/7 and be lifted up from any trouble we encounter.  He is like the stars, we can't always see them but they are always there.

The Thoughts That Went Into It

    As we drove down a street adjacent to ours today, I could see the beginning processes of a new subdivision being built.  What has been a wooded area for all my years here is now being transformed with the power of bull dozers and saws.  The underground pipes wait their turn to be laid.  It is an overwhelming process beyond my thoughts of what, when and where things should go.
    Even more incomprehensible is God's creation of everything under the sun in this world, plus the heavens above us as well.  How can you look around on this gorgeous spring day and not see His handiwork displayed?  'How great Thou art' is the biggest understatement of all time but it's a praise intended statement.
   Psalm 14; 1-2  ''The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.''
   It's no joke to be the fool who believes and relies on his own understanding.

Teach Them

    It is up to you as parents to not only teach your kids about Christ but to show them how to live a life as a follower of Him.  They most likely won't learn it from school or television but will instead be shown a worldly, sin based lifestyle.  The liberal and atheist movement is in full force now but we must stand firm in God's way of living, not man's.  'Strive to be Biblically accurate, rather than politically correct.'
    Children are a reflection of us.  They are little repeaters and they will imitate what they see.  What is important to you, will plant a seed in them but you must cultivate it into their daily lives.
    We need to teach them church isn't a Sunday routine but it is something we apply into our everyday lives.  Build a foundation in them that will stand forever.  'On this Solid Rock I stand.'

Good Friday

     Today is Good Friday, so what does that mean to you?  A day off from work and a three day weekend?  A day that you hope will bring you good things?  Or the day when we remember Jesus sacrifice on the cross for our sins?
     He paid the debt for our sins because we had no way to bridge the gap between us and God.  Our sinful nature separates us from God.  ''God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.'' 2 Corinthians 5:21
    What a time of mourning it would be if we didn't know His Resurrection was coming in three days?  Jesus foretold them to ease their minds back then but they in turn had to believe.
    The same is true today.  The Bible tells us of both things of the past and the future but it is up to us to believe it.  Faith helps us to believe even when we don't understand.
    It is a Good Friday to me because my appointment in eternity is set and confirmed because of His blood shed for me.

The Resurrection

The following is from my friend, Buster Godbee.  It is from his Sunday School lesson on 8 problems that we would encounter if there were no resurrection of Christ.  As Easter approaches, I hope this will help you consider the importance of The Resurrection more deeply/

In Jesus’ time many of the Jewish religious leaders did not believe in the resurrection.  In fact the entire sect of the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection^{[Matt 22:23;Act 23:8]}.  Even some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers called Paul a babbler when he spoke of Jesus and the resurrection ^{[Acts 17:18]}.  In our time also, many religious leaders and skeptics do not believe in the resurrection.  In I Cor 15 Paul provides seven (7) major problems for all people who call themselves Christian, if Christ was not raised from the dead.  Finally, in Romans 10 Paul gives in a single verse the ultimate 8th problem.  Therefore, we have Seven Problems - Plus One. 

1 Corinthians 15; 1-19

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas,[b] and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.  9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.  12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

In verses 1-4, we are given the definition of the Gospel--the death, burial and resurrection of Christ
In verses 5-11, we are told of the 500 plus witnesses of the resurrected Christ
In verses 12-19, we are given the 7 problems if there were no resurrection

    1. Previous teaching about the gospel would be incorrect [verses 1-11].
    2. Current preaching is in vain [verse 14]
    3. Our Faith is in vain [verse 14]
    4. All the writers of the New Testament along with all teachers and preachers that followed, would be false witnesses of God (verse 15).  Even Christ would have to be considered a false witness since he spoke clearly and often about His impending death and resurrection.
    5. Our faith is worthless and we are still in our sins [verse 17]
    6. Those Christians who have fallen asleep [dead] have perished [verse 18]
    7. We of all people are most to be pitied [verse 19]
    8.The ultimate problem - One cannot be saved unless one believes in the resurrection.

Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.   

    

You may say that all this sounds pretty radical.

I would agree.

But remember, prophesy is radical;

The resurrection is radical;

The cross is radical;

So is Jesus, our Lord and Messiah!

It's a God Thing

     I'm going to take a little creative twist on a common phrase and say 'It is better to have lived and lost, than to have never lived at all.'  Now this could be taken in different ways so I'll explain what I mean by it.
     'It's a God thing' that my neuromuscular disease wasn't just onset, but progressive.  That might sound a little perplexing but it's true.  I have been blessed in that I've spent the majority of my life with the physical ability to do what I've wanted to do.  I've been able to experience education to my desired level, travel to far off places, and live my own life for twelve years.  The progressive nature of my illness has allowed me to adapt to the weakness it causes with time.  Although I cannot do what I once did, I'm thankful for the times I could. I can often think 'been there, done that.'  I'm sure God has His purpose in both my active and less active years.
     We all have a progressive problem that causes weakening.  It's called 'aging.'  So mine is two-fold and has a faster rate of speed but the message is still the same.  Adapt as you go but just keep going.

Never Give Up

     Yes, there are times when we feel as if we are being swallowed up by our troubles.  Yes, there are times when we want to choke the living daylights out of those troublemakers.  Yes, those anxious moments make us sweat and question 'is it worth it?'
     Kick that doubt out the door and never give up.  If you still have breath, then use the fight still left in you.  'Greater is He that is in you, than in the world.'  God gives us trials to make us stronger in Him.  'Out of my distress, I called upon the Lord; He answered me and set me free.'  Psalm 118;5  Abraham responded to his doubt and fear with faith, unquestioning action, and prayer.  How do you respond?
    Trials are not a coincidence, they have purpose.  'God leads us to troubled waters, not to drown us but to cleanse us.'  Let Him finish the work He started in you and don't give up on Him or yourself.
 

Good to Us

    I think this caption helps to remind us to 'be thankful in all circumstances.'  Do you see the clutter as a hardship or a blessing?  We are blessed with so much that we take it for granted.  There is a bright side to everything but we must look for it, even if it's hidden and not so obvious.  Always have an attitude of gratitude for the blessings God has bestowed on you.  Many people pray for what you've been given already.
    We must be leary of our desire for always wanting more.  I know it's in our nature and downsizing is rarely done freely or willingly.  When is enough enough?  Are we ever satisfied and count those blessings?
   God's grace gives and provides what we do not deserve.  We are saved by grace alone, not by anything we have done or could do.  Some people consider what they have as the result of their own hands but nothing is provided without God's provision.  Remember, all that we have is His first.

Weaker?

    Yes, I believe the man is the head of the house but I also believe Eve was made from the rib at Adam's side, not his foot.  Therefore, as women don't have their place in everything, I don't think 'weaker' is the right word in a lot of cases.
    For those who think a woman's place is in the kitchen, how come the cooks at most restaurants are men?  If women didn't invent multi-tasking, well then I know they've sure mastered it and reinvented it better than men ever could dream of.
   'Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.'  James 1;12
   Like the true mother of the baby being fought over in the Bible, women will often sacrifice their own desires for the good and well-being of others.  What a characteristic of strength.

Purpose

     'Lord, I do not know what tomorrow will bring, but You do and that's enough.'  Is that enough for you?  We are not meant to understand everything but having faith provides the bridge between the seen and the unseen.
     Below are a few quotes that I hope will make you think about your purpose here.

     'Let the beloved of the world, rest secure in Him.'  Deuteronomy 33;12     
    "We need men so possessed by the Spirit of God that God can think His thoughts through our   minds, that He can plan His will through our actions, that He can direct His strategy of world evangelization through His Church." ~ Alan Redpath
     'Non-Christians don't read the Bible, they read Christians.'
     'Purpose is found in those quiet moments when no one but God sees the work of your hands.'
     'The purpose of life is a life of purpose.'

    Don't ask yourself 'why am I here?' but ask yourself 'what should I be doing?'  Make the most of your purpose driven life.

Class

 
    Okay, I'm going to try to write this post with 'class' but I don't guarantee anything.  I think there should be a class on 'class' because it's a rare find.  We all try to have class but of the three things above, we usually fail in one area.
    'Knowing what to say' is the first step.  Is it true, helpful, important, necessary, kind......THINK it thru first.  Always be encouraging and kinder than necessary.  Sure there have been times I've wanted to use this blog to vent but is that really what I want to pass on to others?  No.  What I say should uplift others.
    'When to say it' is important because timing can be everything.  Just because it popped in your head doesn't mean it's always the right time for it to pop out of your mouth.  Sometimes I have to be careful that my blog post isn't reflective of a recent event and therefore someone could take it personally.
     'When to stop' is the hardest for people, I think.  Get to the point or you're going to lose me halfway.  People get caught up in the details when the listener just wants the overall picture.  Some people think my blogs are too short, while others like the brevity of them.  I think we remember things better that are short and that make us think, like Psalm 23 or the chorus of a hymn.
     So I can say for myself that my writing might be in a more upper class form than my everyday speech but that just proves how if we 'think' about our words then we can be a little classier.

It's a God Thing

    I wanted to follow-up last week's blog about switching to my mask air machine with a little more on how it has helped me.  'It's a God thing' that I am able to use my machine in the car, shopping in Canton, concerts, etc.  It allows me to enjoy events without even thinking about being short of breath, like most of you. The portability of it allows me a much broader range to venture out. I can save my energy for what I want to do, rather than use it all up getting there.  It refuels my oxygen level and gives me more energy.  It's a comforting thought to know it is near by when I need a boost.  It's kind of like when football players use oxygen on the sidelines to recharge for the next play, but mine is just regular air not oxygen.
    It is also like Jesus always being near to us but we have to turn to Him.  He can also refuel us, comfort us and give us strength to carry on.

Duck Dynasty

    This is Phil from the show, Duck Dynasty.  I don't know why I'm hooked on this show but the redneck girl in me is.  It's funny yet not so pleasing to the eye.  They have a good faith based message in every episode as they gather around the table together for dinner.  I guess it shows that everyone can share the gospel with others in their own unique way.
     I think the popularity of the show points to what people would like to watch on television.  We want clean humor with a life message.  I think the History channel's 'The Bible' is also popular right now because of the seeking of our hearts to understand The Word.  Hopefully it will turn people to the written Word because the Book is always better and truer than the movie.
     God cares about our hearts and what it shares with others more than anything else.

I See It This Way

    How we see life and death is a great testimony to others.  Do you view them from an earthly or heavenly perspective?
    Life is not just about the here and now.  It's not about what you can get out of it either.  It is about the purpose in which God made you, to do here for Him.  Life is a series of joys and trials that hopefully will draw on your need of a Savior.  We can use our gifts and blessings to enrich the lives of others instead of living in a 'me' state of mind.  It is said, 'when I get to heaven, I want to have no talent left because I used it all up here to further the Kingdom.'
    Death is not just an end but a new beginning.  For believers, it is something we anticipate with joy and hope.  My friend lost his mother suddenly this past week and despite the grief, he openly praised the Lord that she was with Him now.  The Bible promises us that we will one day be resurrected like Jesus was, because He conquered the grave.  'Death has lost it's sting and become a victory.'
    2 Corinthians 2;14-16  ''But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life.''
    May your life and perspective be a light to the world that makes others want to turn to it.

Not on the Go

   Yes, I need these kind of days every so often.  I don't want four weeks in a row of it but just occasionally.  I think it's good for you.  Spending quiet time reading my devotionals this morning gives me time to think and listen to God's whispers to me.  I've also spent time this morning just laughing to myself at all the funny captions I've found on the pinterest website.  Some I will share with you on future blog posts and some just personally hit my funny bone.
    Yes, I know it's a pretty, sun shiny day but I'm not one to be on the go all the time.  I've been there, done that and my body and soul have felt the after-shocks.  I guess I'm kind of like my computer battery, I work better with a regular recharge than to burn out all that I have saved up.
    Psalm 62: 1-2 ''Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.''

Bad Hair

    Who hasn't had a bad hair day?  Have you ever woke up looking like Don King? [not my uncle but the boxing promoter.. lol]  Some days there is just not enough gel in the world to calm the static on your head.  Of course, if you wanted a little volume and lift then your hair is going to be limp as a wet noodle.
    Our hair is a big part of how we define ourselves.  We go to great lengths to cut it, curl it, tease it, and style it in various ways.  We often take it for granted until we start to lose it due to age, illness or medication.  Then we freak out or at least I did when it happened to me for a short while.  Humbling comes in all forms and sometimes out of left field.
     There are so many things in life that we don't realize how important they are to us till they're gone.  Take a moment today to be thankful for all the things you have, like hair even if it's not as much these days, before they're gone for good.

It's a God Thing

    Sometimes in life people will try to convince you something is right, when you know good and well it's wrong.  This could be a moral issue or a physical issue.  It is up to you to stick to your guns and say 'No, it's not right.'
    I think it was the Monday after Halloween weekend of 2004 that my doctor put me in ICU.  How sick was I?  I wore my nightgown and leggings to the Dr's office, now that's pretty sick.  This was when I transitioned from my old machine to my mask machine to help my breathing.  I did fine on the hospital's machine but when the medical home supplier brought a machine for me to use at home, it didn't feel right.  I told the lady it didn't feel the same and I couldn't breathe with it.  She told me I just needed to get used to it.  At that moment, 'it was a God thing' that my doctor came in and heard the discussion.  He asked her if she had calibrated the machine before bringing it to me.  She said No and he lit into her like a match to gasoline.  A new calibrated machine was brought over and I could breathe comfortably with it and be discharged to go home in a few days.
    2 Timothy 1;7  ''For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.''
    [I think I've shared this story before but I thought it was worth repeating.  Don't settle for less than you expect in what you think is right.]

Sparkle

    Okay, if you know me at all then you know I love a little bling.  I think a little sparkle can spruce up anything that seems plain.  It catches the eye with it's shiny illumination.
    Don't you want your life to add a little sparkle into the lives of others?  How can we add sparkle?  Your smile should be contagious.  Your mood should be uplifting.  Your actions should be inspiring.  Your words should be encouraging and motivating.
    I think when our hearts and our actions are together in a Spirit led mind then we will leave a little sparkle wherever we go.  The beauty of a diamond is formed by pressure so let the pressures of your daily life turn you into something just as shiny and beautiful.

The Circle of Life

   The circle of life is often not pleasant and a harsh lesson in humility.  We think 'that' won't happen to me but time is the true revealer.  I've heard two stories recently about caregivers dealing with moments that were far from comfortable.  So, I thought I'd give a few humbling points.

   1.  Your body is just like everybody else's, it's your pride that makes you think you're different.
   2.  Whatever has been an embarrassing moment has happened to someone else before you.
   3.  Learn from your experiences and next time it will be better.
   4.  Pride is concerned with who is right, Humility is concerned with what is right.
   5.  Humility is a fertile soil that grows spiritual fruit.
   6.  Being kind is often better than being right when helping others.

   Humility is a tricky thing, just when you think you've got it is right when you lost it.  Be nice and full of mercy when helping others, you never know when you'll be on the receiving end.

The Week

    It's Monday so let's start the week off with a positive attitude.  Let's look for the good in everything that comes our way.  Don't look to see if the glass is full or not, but instead be glad you have a glass.
    I personally am feeling good and have high hopes for the week.  'My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.'

Never Changes

    The world is often one big marketing strategy.  The Bible says 'there is nothing new under the sun.'  So we just put a new spin on the same old thing and call it new.  Today's topic was sparked by my hair gel.  The last time I bought it, it was Aussie Sydney Smooth but now it's Aussie Miraculously Smooth.  There was no miracle done in the lab to make it any better, nor does it do any miracle on my hair.  It's the same stuff with a flashier name to get me to buy it.
    The Bible never changes.  People often take away or add to its message to make it more appealing to us but that is wrong.  The Word of God is what is and that's enough.  The church today often tries to turn worship into entertainment but what our souls really need is the Truth, plain and simple.  We will all be held accountable to what the Bible says, not what our culture deems as right or wrong.

Spur One Another

   


     Don't we all like unexpected good surprises?  I was awakened by a friend this morning dropping off an easter present for me.  She was putting 'encourage and build each other up' into action.  She was also letting me know that her thoughts were with me even tho we hadn't seen each other in bible study lately.
     Hebrews 10;24-25  'And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.'
     Our lives do get busy but we should never grow weary in doing good.  A little effort goes a long ways in a recipient's heart.  Love isn't love until you give it away.  As we all like the getting, we should love giving even more.

It's a God Thing

    Have you ever felt the flame of the fire without getting burned?  I think God lets us know we've done wrong as a warning without pouring all of His wrath upon us.  His mercy is defined as withholding what we deserve and we should be grateful.
    So let us rewind down memory lane back to my Levy cruising days.  Let me just preface this as a one time learned lesson, not a habit repeated.  My two friends and I were in the front seat of my Honda Prelude with bucket seats.  We got pulled over by a cop and found out it was illegal to have three people in the front seat.  Who knew?  Well we all had to exit the vehicle so he could look in the car.  Well on this one night, we had split a wine cooler between us.  We were all thinking about the trouble we'd be in if he found it.  It was a 'God thing' of mercy that the empty bottle had rolled out of sight way up under the driver' seat.  Oh yeah, I felt the heat because I did get a ticket and had to go to court but I didn't get burned.
     Mercy is priceless.

Tomorrow

     This caption has been my daily motto for awhile now.  I've been stuck in a holding pattern of sickness or what one may see as forced captivity at home.  I haven't lost hope because I do know there will be a tomorrow coming to look forward to here on earth and eternally.
     We must not see our bad day as having a bad life.  There are no rainbows without the rain.  The trials we encounter help us to appreciate the joys even more.  Trials also help us to see our weaknesses more clearly by being up close and personal.  We can therefore see our desperate need for our Healer, Comforter, and Savior through these moments.  Where there is faith there is hope and where there is hope there are His promises about our tomorrows.
      'Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya. You're only a day away.'

Who?

      Who does this?  Seriously, I see it but wonder what they are thinking.  The odds of you seeing people you know goes up exponentially with how bad you look.  Oh but the rollers let them know you're going to look great later right...lol.
      You can never make a second first impression.  I encourage people to care about how they look.  A lot can be said for clean, decent and appropriate in the way you care for your appearance.  Are you the 'Pigpen' of the Peanuts gang?  Cologne can never beat a bar of soap and water...just sayin'.

4 Good Things

     This caption yells out to me 'Ding Ding, Ding Ding'.  It all points to living your authentic self with others.  You can be true to yourself without an obtrusive approach.
     Pretending...... you can only act for so long.  Your true colors will bleed thru eventually. Be who you are meant to be, not the crowd's wannabe.
     Depending..... love without expecting.  God loved us while we were still sinners.  His love isn't dependent on ours.
     Defending.... not a word is heard when you're building your case in your head.  Ears can't be shut like our mouths for a reason.
     Offending.....  reword it.  You can make your point without making an enemy.  Say it nice or just keep your advice.

Happy or Not?

     I heard on the news last night, Arkansas was ranked 46 out of the 50 states where people were the least happy.  Really?  Happiness is a choice, it's not by chance.  If your happiness is dependent on your circumstances, then your life will crash as often as a wave hits the shore.
    'Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one remembers to turn the Light on.'  The peace of God will sustain you.  As I wind up my third week of being sick, I could be bitter or better for this down time.  I choose better and that starts with the quality of my thoughts.
     If you're not happy, look within.  Then look above and count your blessings.  Lastly, help yourself by helping someone else be happy.

         ''If you knew Jesus was coming to visit you at your house tonight, would you run to the door to welcome him with open arms, or would you (we) need to rush around to hide some things. What do you have in your home that you (we) would be ashamed for him to find?''

         This was a post from my cousin, Gina, on her facebook page and I thought it was a good point to ponder.  Everything we have and own belong to God but would He want to claim it?  Music and movie collections, are they an encouragement to the soul?  Is your home an example of earthly hoarding or an example of humble giving?

         It's okay to surround yourself with things you enjoy and make you happy but there are limits to one's greed and self indulgence.  We must give our first fruits to God, not the leftovers.  'In my house, we will serve the Lord.'  It's not just a saying but should be a way of life.

It's a God Thing

     Today is my friend's birthday, David Nosek.  When I moved back here, he was one of a couple of people that took me under their wing to make my transition smoother.  Our first outing was a Natalie Merchant concert.  It was fun to go with someone who enjoyed her music as much as I did.  We've also enjoyed movies, hockey games, new restaurants and shopping in Memphis excursions.  Friends are ones that even tho you may see them less, you know they're there and can be counted on no less.
     'It's a God thing' that David took the time and effort back then for me when I needed it most.  Showing God's love to others in whatever way you can is a great way to serve as a Christian.  Don't expect it to always be easy and problem free either.  David and I have unspoken of stories that shall remain that way but what's important is the friendship that's stayed intact through it all.
     Happy Birthday David.  I know God brings people into our lives with a purpose that He wants fulfilled.  Thanks for stepping up to the plate.

PHILIP AND SANDRA PRIME
1. Pray for our baptismal service on the 3rd of March. We could have 5 or so who would want to be baptized: Lilia and her son Pablo; A young gal Denise; a young man Jesús; another young man also named Jesús; and possibly a few more. Pray that the Lord would help us to give them wise counsel.

2. Please pray for the visa and vehicle situation here in Mexico.

Changes in the Mexican Visa laws are forcing all foreigners who reside (or plan on residing) in Mexico for the long-term, to apply for residency.  The new law is forcing us to either legalize (import) our van or sell it in the US and buy a Mexican one.

I have been told by two different agencies (non-government) that deal with the importation of vehicles that it is not possible to import the Bookmobile. I am still waiting on one other agency to finish their investigation into the matter.

MARTIN AND HANSY TUOHY

1. The vehicle we have been using needs new license plates to remain legal. There has been many delays in getting them. Please pray we are able to get them by the end of this week.

2. Till Easter camps we have will be traveling quite a bit on the weekends, visiting other churches here in MX. Please pray for travel mercies and ability to minister well to each of the churches.

3. Wisdom is needed as we prepare to pack up here in Puruandiro. Are we packing for good or just so that we can return once we have tied up loose ends in Denmark?

4. Salvation of young family whom we are studying with.I beg your prayers for my oldest sister, Carmen (the mother of Kena). Thursday of last week, 5:30 am, she fainted, felt from the second floor, hit a pot with her head, destroyed one of her knees, and God graciously spared her life!

I beg your prayers for my oldest sister, Carmen (the mother of Kena). Thursday of last week, 5:30 am, she fainted, felt from the second floor, hit a pot with her head, destroyed one of her knees, and God graciously spared her life!
    She got stiches in her head, and last Friday had knee surgery. This week Quico and I spent a few days in Celaya helping care for her. She is doing well and her pains have resided greatly, and she told us repeatedly to have felt so loved by us.  I am still very concerned about her salvation. She is a very devout Catholic who confesses to have put her trust in Christ as her Savior, and that if she would have died, she is sure she would spent eternity in heaven; but also she will forever trust in the intercession on the Virgin Mary for her daily walk and eternity. I left some literature with her and she says to daily read Our Daily Bread devotional. May the Lord give her true understanding of Christ amazing and sufficient grace.
    My health and energy have been so much better. Thank you for your faithful prayers!!!

DENNY NORRIS
We are so grateful for how God is working among the youth in Cannon Beach. Each week we are meeting in the home of one of the church families (we usually fill up the host’s home) as we study through the gospel of John. Besides the Bible study, we recite memory verses, report on Bible reading, pray, have a question and answer time and eat a snack. There is an enthusiasm among them that is contagious… and the families in the church feel blessed to host them. They also have a passion for their lost friends and relatives.

Thanks so much for praying for the quinceañera celebration; the name of Christ was both exalted and proclaimed. Both the fifteen old year girl and her father gave their testimonies.
 

 

 

Waiting

    Who can't relate to this?  Hurry up is what's on everyone's mind.  Are we mindful of others when it's our turn?  I think some people think the handicapped stall is the upgraded area for all to use.  I'm here to say 'it is not'.  When there is a 5 to 1 ratio of regular stalls to an accessible one, you better wait for one of the five.  I am not very patient when I've had to wait on a person that could have used any of the other stalls and this one is my only option.   Your big purse, your tight space phobia, nor it being a phone booth makes you eligible as handicapped.
     'Patience is the companion of wisdom.'  Is it wise to lose our patience?  Not usually.  Our attitude during the wait is what the world sees in us most.  'The meek will inherit the earth' so we must humble ourselves.  Time will not wait for anyone but we must wait for the right timing in the impatient moments.

3 Important Bones

     There are 206 bones in the human body.  They all bear weight, make you stable and give your body it's form.  Reba lists three other bones that are just as essential to success in our lives.
      The wishbone.  We need hope in our lives.  We need something to strive for in the race of life.  'The reason the damned in hell cease acting toward an alteration of their state; despair has taken hold of them.'  When our wishes are conveyed through sincere prayers, they are more likely to come true.
      The backbone.  You have to stand up for yourself.  Your rights, your respect due to you and your beliefs.  Wishy washy is not an option with success. You either get in the game or get on the bench.  As I am often a patient in the healthcare system, I know standing up for what will or will not work for me puts my stubborn backbone to the test.
     The funnybone.  Life is not as serious when you can laugh at yourself.  A sense of humor is one of the most desired characteristics in a person.  A cheerful soul brings joy to others.  Laughter is one of the best medicines so  live, love, and laugh often.
     Enjoy success with these three bones that give hope, convictions and joy in this fallen world.

My Spot

    I think this caption is a true reflection of me the past couple of weeks.  I'm in my favorite place to be and eating everything within reach.  Do you have a favorite chair or an area just to call 'your space'?  It is comforting to be there and can conform to your body's needs like a glove.
    Now we do have to be on guard of becoming a couch potato.  'You don't have to move fast but you do have to move.'  A big risk of the flu is the development of pneumonia due to inactivity.  Pushing yourself within reason can benefit you as much as rest will.  It's a balancing act.
    As I miss out on the fun activities of this weekend, I will focus on the joys of my still moments.  I'm eating like a fat queen, I'm comfortable, I'm not in pain, I'm content with my circumstances, I've got my bed buddy [Tiger] by my side, and I have hope that this too shall pass

The Journey

     How would you rate your journey thus far?  Smooth, bumpy, full of detours?  We are each a product of our individual journey and it has shaped us in many ways.  I personally am an 'A to B' type of traveler.  I like to know where I'm headed and the shortest way to get there.  Life doesn't work that way, does it?  It is said, 'A truly happy person enjoys the scenery on a detour.'   Okay, that's never happened in my life..lol.
     If we don't learn from the pitfalls of our journey, we are most likely to end up in a rut.  The lessons of life are meant to teach us in our weakest areas.  I would say 'patience' is a big theme of mine and these two weeks of flu sickness is not a detour I would've chosen.  It has taught me to put my agenda on hold and let the Lord work on me...in His timing.
    Don't rush your journey and the process that is working in you.  You're right where you need to be.

Again?

     Do you ever think 'oh great, here we go again' when you face a problem for the second or third time?  I think we often remember how hard it was to overcome and how long it took, rather than the steadfastness of the Lord's faithfulness.  We remember the pain or hardship of a problem and not the glory that shined through it.  Strength shows itself stronger through our sufferings.
     'The Lord will provide' in all circumstances.  Our clearest view of the future is reflecting on God's past work in our lives.  Have you ever really done without?  Doubtful, unless a prideful heart interfered.  Everything happens for a reason, it's not coincidence.
     I encourage you to take a look into your past and see how trusting God overpowered any worry or fear you had with a problem.  It's like in the Footprints poem, 'Where were You when I needed You most?  I carried you.'

It's a God Thing

     Do you ever stop to think about where you were born and raised?  Of all the places in the world I could have been placed, I know 'It's a God thing' that I was born in the USA and the South.  There is no other country more free and blessed by God, despite the attempts to shut Him out.  It is the land of opportunity and people flock here to make their dreams come true.
    Being in the South has it's blessings too.  Seasons change but are here just long enough to make you ready for the next.  Southern hospitality is embedded into daily life that is a true southern comfort.  Sweet tea, how could I live without it?
    Hearing the struggles of third world countries, like Haiti, helps me be more thankful that God put me where I could thrive for Him best.  I was born in a small town, Conway, and I prefer being a lil fish in a lil pond.

Not Lonely

    I am a people person but that doesn't mean I dislike being alone at times.  We should all learn to handle being by ourselves and we will then be even better when around others.  I can feel more alone in a crowded room than an empty house.

    A lot of people feel the need to have some sort of distraction present to fill the silence of a room, like constant tv or music.  I think that can be a negative thing.  Are you ever alone with your thoughts?  Can you hear God's whispers above the noise?  Some people sleep with earplugs to get a good night's rest but sometimes we should try a daytime pair to block out the world.  

    Only when we are happy with ourselves can we make others happy.  I encourage you to 'be still' and get to know yourself and your thoughts in some quiet time.  God is with us, so we're never really alone.

Adversity

    When things are good, it is easy to go with the flow.  When faced with a challenge tho, it can take your whole armory to get you through it.  If you're smart, you know what things work for you and what works against you.
    I understand what this caption is referring to but it is hard to put into words.  Maybe because that heavenly spark is not all about us and our determination.  Peace from the Spirit can calm the storms in you enough to keep you from drowning.  Hope is a good promise to keep our focus on the positive side of the adverse conditions surrounding us at the moment.  Trust reaffirms our faith that 'the good work He began in us, will be completed.'
    Now if your spark evolving from strife isn't so heavenly, then impatience, anger, slander and harshness will surely follow.  We've all been there because 'no not one' of us is good.
    Should your spark be snuffed or put on the top of a hill?
     [Be careful what you blog about, you may get tested.  Our power went out while I wrote this...  adverse conditions to say the least]

Heart?

    I am reading a new book called 'The Almost Christian Discovered' by Matthew Mead from the 1600's.  It is as relevant now as way back then.  I've touched the topic of head knowledge recently but this book has a few ideas I'd like to share.
    Knowledge is two-fold, there is common knowledge and saving knowledge.  You can have knowledge without grace but not grace without knowledge.  What does that mean?  It means if your heart isn't in it and changed then the value of the knowledge is of little worth to you.  God may use it tho to benefit another person tho.  'Till the affections are made spiritual, there is no affection to things that are spiritual.'  It's just going through the motions.  It's like getting in a car, pushing the gas and turning the wheel but if you don't start the heart of the engine... you go nowhere.  'Saving knowledge joins affection and application.'
    'The preciousness of knowledge lies in its usefulness to the soul.'  The book uses Judas as an example.  All that he knew didn't affect his betraying heart. Take time to figure out where your heart is and then pursue the godly part into your life.
 

Computer Time

   Some people find computers a challenge in their lives but I find it challenging to do without mine.  I have the flu but the world doesn't stop and I need to keep in touch.  My laptop is my relay to my sphere of the world since I don't use the phone.  I am receiving prayers, well wishes and encouragement through my laptop so it's a blessing in many ways.
    I know we've all felt like Cliff at times, but just be patient with yourself and ask for help if needed.  There is never a dumb question.  There are clues that will point out your lack of computer savvy.. like saying 'www' before every website, pushing the keyboard keys like an old typewriter, or not knowing computer shorthand like 'lol' or 'idk'.  It's okay, none of us knew at some point.
    Part of staying young is keeping our minds sharp, so keep after it.

It's a God Thing

     I guess you've heard in the news about the Carnival Triumph being stranded in the Gulf of Mexico without power or common necessities.  I've been on two Carnival cruises and with stories like these, I think I'm done with them.
     In 2003 or 2004, Charlene and I took a 5 day cruise with some friends.  We left out of Galveston, TX to go to Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Cancun.  Oh yes, you may be thinking beaches, sun and fun.  While that is true, it was not an incident free trip.  The night before arriving at the Cancun port, my breathing machine [my old bulky one that had to travel in a huge Rubbermaid tub] that I use to sleep with QUIT.  So here we are in the middle of the ocean and there is no sleep for me until we get a replacement machine.  We did have a spare one at home.. miles and hours away.  We called my parents and my dad took the first available flight out to Cancun.  He had to get there before the ship deported and headed back out to sea.  The 'God thing' is 4 fold... God gave me the strength to stay awake after a long day, my dad arrived safely and in time with the machine, God allowed me to postpone my needed sleep till that night so I could enjoy the one day in Cancun, and my true friend was by my side all along.
      Our plans may not always go smoothly but the One who directs my paths will see me through it.

The Narrow Way

     'The Way is narrow that leads to Life.'  We are all born onto the broad road of life but it will be few who choose the narrow path.  ''Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.''  Matthew 7;13-14
      I think the caption above depicts a few things about the narrow path.  Although some may conclude that it's boundaries are confining, it instead provides a sheltering protection from the world.  It is easy to follow the crowd but it takes true strength to stand alone.  To turn your back on the chosen path for you, takes a decision and effort on your part.  No one can walk or choose the road for you.
     Which road have you taken?  Are you headed for destruction or to eternal life?  Yes sometimes our journey has involved an exit ramp or two, but the U-turn involved is often stressful as we try to get back on the right and narrow road.  Look ahead and don't get distracted.
