Okay so not all of us are musically gifted, including myself. My friend, Kelly, teaches violin but I will stick with my straw. I can do okay on my hammer dulcimer but I don't consider it a talent but more of a determined effort.
1 Corinthians 12;4-6 ''There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.''
We all have something to offer. There are many ways to use your gift in an area of service that differs from others, but is as equally important. I think my voice of encouragement is much more useful here on my blog than it would be in the church choir. ''We need to recognize that lack of confidence does not equal humility. In fact, genuinely humble people have enormous confidence because it rests in a great God.''
To think you have nothing worthwhile to give is a self-centered thought. No effort spent on others is ever a waste, even if they don't appreciate it like you'd want them to. Give of yourself and you will be rewarded with more than you gave.
Love it! I do love your blog and that your voice is heard. It is your gift. I am sure you could make a straw sing just like that dulcimer. .

Good word! I often feel like I have no "talent", but then I remember that cooking and taking meals to people is a way that I can serve. And having tasted food that is downright inedible, I would say that cooking food people like to eat is a talent.:) And I have to tell you that seeing you singing in church (ok, it wasn't in the choir) was SUCH a blessing to me.

ReplyDeleteWhen I have been on mission trips, I received more than I gave.
If you want to learn something--teach a class on that subject, the teacher learns more than the student.
When you want something done--do it yourself.
Maybe "work" is for us--- not the recipient.

When He doesn't use me to teach (which is where I am most comfortable) He uses me to show hospitality or to make phone calls or to visit someone. He uses me for HIS glory, not mine. I'm with you on the straw, too! I am sure that is the closest thing to a musical instrument I will ever play. But we are to bloom where we are planted, and I pray to be in God's service wherever I am, doing whatever He might equip me to do. Wonderful blog, Angie. Love you, T.
ReplyDeleteGood blog. I too wander sometimes what my gifts are but when I think on it I can think of a few things--I suppose we have to think on it because if it is truly a gift we enjoy doing it and don't think of it as a service really. Mom
