Tradition
My mom made chicken and dressing the other day and some might say 'it's not Thanksgiving yet.' That's silly to wait for a certain day to enjoy food that you can love any day of the year. Just the same, we shouldn't wait for a certain day to 'give thanks' for all of the blessings of the year.
Traditions can be both good and bad. Some are just fun and can bring a family together with memories of past years. Some can just be a ritual with nothing but routine habit in it.
What about traditions related to church? Are your beliefs your own or were you just raised that way and you've put no thought into it? Is going to church on Sunday 'just what we do' or do you look forward to it? Does the church service seem set in stone with it's unaltering pattern?
May you see the difference in what is routine and habit-driven in your life and change it to include heartfelt joy and anticipation of your own.

A good reminder. To offer a sacrifice of praise, to be thankful every day. When it's easy, it's easy :) When it's hard, that's when it counts the most. LY
ReplyDeleteJust as joyful traditions hold a family together, so do the traditions surrounding our faith if they are backed by firm conviction and obedience to God. I love this post and the message it gives both to families and faith.
ReplyDeleteDitto, Gloria. Great example of how both family and faith are the bonds that hold us together. We had chicken/dressing at James' "gig" yesterday and, before I even read your blog, I had determined that I am making it for Sunday lunch! Why do we wait to experience what we love when we don't have to? Just as some wait until Easter or Christmas to go to church to worship, they could be worshipping every Sunday. Thanks for the great word, Angie. Will think of you and your mom when we sit down to eat this Sunday, Lord willing.....Love you, T.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted my M-I-Law to make me dressing after I had a baby. I LOVE dressing/stuffing and I guess I felt like giving birth needed some comfort food. Good point on traditions within the church.
