How often do we sit down and have ourselves a little pity party? How often do we focus all of our attention on the negativity in life? I say, it is all too often. There are always going to be people who are worse off than you and are praying for those blessings you've been given. We take for granted all we are given, until it is taken away. We always want more and never feel truly satisfied, like a kid in a toy store.
I think American's blessings can be compared with women's clothing sizes. I went to Target yesterday and the XS size was for who, an extra small whale? Well, that's what I thought. As an American, do you count your blessings as extra small and yet it is more than enough for you? Do you share that extra with others or stuff it in your own pants?
A lot of people don't like the word 'luck' because they want to give credit to the Giver of all things good and bad knowing there is His purpose in everything.
Uplifting others and being an encouragement can be the party crashers to your own pity party... invite that kind of thinking and action in. It'll do you good.
Every american should have an extended visit in a third world country, an eat local food, experience the local government, and local religion. They will be glad to be back on american soil and our way of life. Thank God you were born in america. Dad
ReplyDeleteLove this, Angie. For many yeas now, my word for "lucky" has been "blessed". Just seems right and I like it so much better. I am not a big believer (if at all) in luck or coincidence. Those are some of the times that I feel God's presence the strongest....and how reassuring and loving that is!! I do often think of others who are much worse than I am when I am feeling low or James or I are having health issues. We have several friends/classmates who are battling cancer or other terminal illnesses, yet I sometimes complain about a headache or a little cold. We may have our turn at fighting much worse illness, but for now we are truly blessed. Sharon Davis, sweet CBF friend who is now with Jesus, used to tell us all the time to "count your blessings". I think of her a lot and try to do so. Love you, my friend...T.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite little saying by Ralph Waldo Emerson is "Shallow men believe in luck." Only the Giver of good and perfect gifts is capable of directing this life, and I am so grateful to Him! Thanks for the good reminder, Angie.
