Thrown

Thought-provoking post about how our imperfections keep us dependent on the Perfect One. (2 Cor. 12:7) http://adivineencounter.com/thorn-or-gift

Today my friends, Charity and Gloria, came over with the kids.  The afternoon turned out a lot nicer than expected.  The kids played on the golf cart with a plastic tub drug behind it.  They had lots of fun.  Even the dogs, Jack and Lucy, had a  playdate full of running with each other.
Days like these remind me of my donut making go-cart and air grabbing three-wheeler days.  Yes, I'd like to be as rough and free in play as I used to be, but there is a time for every season of life.  Having an independent spirit, I can honestly say my disabilities have broken me into a dependence on God sooner in my life than I suspect without them.
Until you are truly broken, your perspective on Who is in control of your life is biased with self confidence.  If we could grasp the strength of God's power in the tornado, then why can't we see His power over our lives?  I trust in the joy of the future to be far more freer than what I remember of the past.

Photo Op

Today we had professional family pictures taken at JCPenney's but these are from our personal photographer, Karla.  I think the photo at the top of the page is the best shot of the day.  Maybe we all look better  because we are at home and in our comfort zone.  The last time I remember us getting our picture made was about 30 years ago when Olan Mills was in the Indian Hills shopping area.
Pictures are worth a thousand words and it is important to capture good moments like these.  As the tornado of last night reminds us, we never know when it'll all be swept away.  May we all be thankful for the blessings of each of our families.

Consider the Lilies

"Consider the lilies ... Even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." - Luke 12:27

'Consider the Lilies' is such a peaceful song to me.  I can just feel it's calming melody run through me.  The lyrics of the song should really be 'considered' by those who worry about every little thing and want to feel in control.
'Consider the lilies, they don’t toil nor spin' because they are too busy blooming to worry about drought and other life threatening events.  'Consider the sparrows, they don’t plant nor sow, But they’re fed by the Master who watches them grow.'  We may joke about the size of a bird brain but how come they trust in God's provisions better than we?
'May I introduce you to this friend of mine,...... But He’s not too busy to care about you.'  If we could just remember that God keeps His eye on us all the time and always has our good in mind.  He's not forgetful, distracted, careless, or unconcerned with us at any point in the day.  Yes 'His eyes are full of mercy and His heart is full of love' for each one of us.  What more could we want?
Yes the flowers will wither and fade away but so will you.  So bloom while you can and count on Him for His favor on your season to shine.  Consider the lilies and then you will know..... not to sweat the small stuff.

Yea, we know how to have fun

Last night, we went to the Cirque de Soleil's Immortal Tour show at Verizon Arena...... thanks to my dad for his taxi service.  Karla and I had a great time watching the dancers, the acrobats and contortionists all perform.
The show began with a mime doing a skit.  Then we saw a female pole dancer who took strength to a whole new level.  How can one support their whole body with one hand upside down on a pole?  Next, we saw aerial dancers on rings with black body suits covered in lights.  The lights changed into many different colors... a pretty sight.  Then, we saw two aerial acrobats doing a beautiful dance in mid-air. Trust is one word to describe it.  Throughout the show, we saw different dance sequences to all the different songs by Michael Jackson.
Probably the most awe-inspiring performer throughout the show was a dancer that was an amputee, at the hip or somewhere way above the knee.  He was AMAZING, to say the least.  He could dance in ways I can't even describe and as fast as anybody out there.  He could break-dance as well as anybody I've ever seen.  What an inspiration to everybody in the crowd and he got a deserved standing ovation.
All I can say is we had fun seeing a show that is hard to describe.  It was a good tribute to all of the great songs of Michael Jackson.

Make It Special

'Life is what you make it.'  I totally believe this and opportunities await you everyday.  We were in the Rivermarket area yesterday, for the second time this week, so we decided to go by Brown Sugar Bakeshop.  At first glance, the bakeshop looks inaccessible because of the stairs but there is an alternative route to get in.  Sure I could have waited in the van and Karla could have got our order with a lot less trouble, but it's just not the same experience.  There were signs to be seen, smells to tempt our senses and people to interact with.
It is up to you to decide how your days will be spent..enjoyed or wasted.  When you look back at your past, will you have fun memories or wasted regrets?  I can honestly say that if I died today, that I've had a full and blessed life.  We should all have had goals that we've met because of our inner desires and motivations to accomplish them.
We should never let something be an imposition to what we want to do.  Just get off the sidelines and get into the game of life.  Life is not just a matter of survival, but one to be truly lived.  Time waits for no one, so live now before it's over.
