Giving Back
What is a tithe? A tenth part of one's annual income contributed voluntarily, especially for the support of the clergy or church. Well that's the dictionary's definition but it's really a way of giving back to the Kingdom to show your gratitude to God. It furthers the work of the gospel here in our local churches.
Don't you think you've already got a good deal with all the blessings you've received? Some people want to give little or nothing back in return. Do you think that because tomorrow is tax day that you've given enough? The Bible says 'So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” The IRS nor does God accept a groupon or substitutes. Cain wanted to give an alternative to a blood offering but that was unacceptable to God.
It's important in this age of 'getting a free ride in life' kind of thinking to teach kids at a young age to not just be takers but more importantly to be givers of gratitude.
A good and timely blog. You can't outgive God is a very true statement. He wants out gratitude and one way of showing it is our monetary sacrifice to support God's work. When we do this with a generous heart we will truly be blessed and God will be pleased. Mom
ReplyDeleteWonderful word for the day! Getting children to have a giver's attitude rather than a getter's attitude is not always easy. Maybe because adults have the same mind set. If we could ever look past the now and see the rewards waiting for us as we faithfully execute God's plan, perhaps we could see past our selfish desires for more here on earth.
ReplyDeleteDitto Bobbie and Gloria....I could not say it any better. Proverbs 22:9 tells us that "he who is generous will be blessed". I believe that refers to all things, including tithing. Thank you, Angie, for such a good blog, at a time when giving doesn't seem to be as important in our society as it might have been in the past. Love you, T.
ReplyDeleteI have been blessed beyond measure, and I hope that I always give more than I take in all aspects of life, whether that is my relationship with friends, sharing my talents, money or anything else. I believe it is important to give a man a "hand up not a hand out".
ReplyDeleteToday is tax day and we are required to pay taxes, do so,
we also get to contribute to God's kingdom, our contributions should show which one is more important.
Great blog, love you Angie, Dad
